More information about Brucle braces suspenders

The History of Men's Braces Suspenders: From the French Revolution to Peaky Blinders

The origin of suspenders dates back to the 1700s, during the French Revolution.
At that time, suspenders were simple strips of fabric, precursors to modern suspenders, and were used to hold up pants that lacked buttons.
Over time, men's suspenders became not only an alternative to belts, but also a true accessory synonymous with refinement, adding charm and elegance to men's clothing.
But there's more: today, this accessory is also popular among women and children, with models of women's suspenders and kid's suspenders.
In cinema, there are various "ambassadors" of suspenders: from Peaky Blinders to Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic, from Michael Douglas in Wall Street to the "droogs" in A Clockwork Orange.

X, Y, H: Three Different Shapes for One Accessory

There are several shapes of men's suspenders, with the main three being:

Y-shaped Suspenders

The classic shape is the Y-shape or three-legged, consisting of two front legs/straps that join at the back to create a fork with a single rear leg/strap.
The attachment of these suspenders can be clips, loops, or leather tabs to be used with buttons sewn into the pants or clip-on buttons.
This three-legged shape has a balanced, clean, and elegant fit.
Simply adjust the front regulators until the suspenders are snug against the body but not too tight, and they will be comfortable all day long!

X-shaped Suspenders

The X-shaped suspenders or four-legged consist of two front legs that cross over at the back, forming an X.
This is the more casual shape and is favored by those who want maximum comfort and support, especially for those who wear suspenders for leisure activities such as skiing or long motorcycle trips.
The attachment of X-shaped suspenders is mainly clips.
None of the four-legged models in our line have button attachments.
This is because the double button attachment with tabs on the back of the X-shape is uncomfortable and less elegant.

H-shaped Suspenders

The most sought-after is the H-shape.
The front straps, when they reach the back, are sewn to a special butterfly-shaped dorsal piece, giving men's suspenders a shape similar to the letter H.
Unlike other versions, these are designed for thin straps.

How to Make Suspenders Last Longer

If you use suspenders with clips, never ever close the clips over the belt loops! This would irreparably damage the mechanics of the suspenders.
Clips are indeed the most susceptible parts of suspenders to wear and are subject to great stress.
Our clips are of high grip and great quality.
However, proper use is essential for longevity.
Suspenders clips should never be closed over "thicknesses" such as belt loops or belts.
If you predominantly use suspenders with thick pants, such as jeans or velvet pants, the clips will adjust to these thicknesses.
Therefore, the grip of the same clips on thinner pants, such as those of a suit, may be less.
For those who use suspenders daily, it is better to choose dual-use suspenders that allow for clip replacement.
For those who use suspenders every day it is better to choose the dual use braces suspenders which allow you to change the attachment of the suspenders according to your needs .
This model is very versatile which allows, once the life of the clips has run out, the change of the same without giving up the suspenders .
The dual use braces model with interchangeable attachment also allows you to use the same braces either with clips or with < strong>leather moustache or with clip moustache.
Suitable for those who use braces often and on different occasions.

Men's Suspenders in Leather, Elastic, Satin, Silk: Different Materials for Different Occasions

Elastic Suspenders

BRUCLE manufactures all its suspenders with high-quality materials, sourced from the best manufacturers and tanneries.
The main types of straps used for BRUCLE elastic suspenders are four.
The classic, timeless, and widespread elastic strap, in solid colors or a wide range of different colors, is the perfect mix of comfort and elegance.
Available in different widths such as 18mm, 22mm, 25mm, 27mm and 35mm, it is suitable for any clothing, from formal attire to wedding dresses and jeans.

Satin-Effect Elastic Suspenders

For customers looking for elastic suspenders that match elegant clothing, satin suspenders are available in a translucent satin-like elastic: an elastic strap with a translucent effect available in different widths, 18, 22, and 27 mm.
It pairs well and adds brightness to ceremonial attire such as tuxedos or wedding suits.

Silk Suspenders

For those in need of elegant and formal suspenders, as well as for those who love the style of English men's suspenders, silk suspenders are the ideal solution.
Made of tubular twill or jacquard fabric with tie and bow tie designs such as pin-dot or geometric patterns, they have non-elastic front straps that maintain a softer appearance and an elastic rear strap.
The adherence to the body is ensured by the elastic rear strap, and the fit is soft.

Leather Suspenders

To complete the range of men's suspenders, we couldn't miss the leather suspenders.
Our thin leather men's suspenders have a width of 18mm and clip attachments.
Thanks to the softness of full-grain calf leather, they guarantee a perfect and soft fit.
Ideal for a casual, original, and glamorous style.

How to Wear and Adjust Suspenders?

The adjustment of suspenders is done by moving the front regulators to the desired size.
BRUCLE suspenders are designed to be primarily comfortable, which is why we avoid positioning the regulators on the rear legs.
Regulators on the back are indeed uncomfortable in various situations, especially when sitting.
For a perfect adjustment, we suggest positioning the rear legs by closing the clips or side loops on the back belt loops of the pants.
At this point, put on the pants and, by sliding the two loose straps over the shoulders, position them laterally on the two front loops of the pants.
Now all you need to do is adjust the height by sliding the regulators, and you're done!

From the Businessman to the Groom, From the Disco to Skiing... Suspenders for Everyone!

In recent years, suspenders have become a must-have in men's fashion, not only the ultimate in elegance and sophistication but also a casual accessory for a trendy chic look.
From country-themed printed patterns to vintage suspenders and the timeless plaid, suspenders are an accessory that goes well with any look, both masculine and feminine.
However, they remain the princely accessory for weddings and ceremonies, along with bow ties and pocket squares.
For ceremonies, opt for solid color suspenders or faux solid patterns: translucent ribbons with patterns, with small embroideries that embellish the groom's look for a perfect wedding.

How to Wear Men's Suspenders: Clips, Loops, Leather Tabs, or Button Clips?

Suspenders with Clips

The versatility of men's suspenders can also be seen in the type of attachment.
For practical and quick use, undoubtedly, the clips are the best choice.
In this case as well, quality is essential, and we only choose high-quality clips for our men's suspenders.
Our clips do not damage the pants and guarantee a strong hold over time.

Suspenders with Leather Tabs and Clips

For the utmost in elegance, use the leather tabs included with our dual-use suspenders.
In the suspenders accessories and spare parts section, you will also find buttons and instructions for sewing them, including their positioning.
If you don't have the option to sew buttons on all your pants, a practical alternative is to use the button clips, universal for all pants, allowing you to wear the suspenders with the tabs without sewing them.
It's a less elegant solution since the buttons remain visible, but it's certainly effective.

Suspenders with Fabric Loops for Button Use

Button suspenders can also have fabric loop attachments.
This type of suspender can only be used with sewn-on buttons or button clips.
Sew-on buttons can be sewn either inside the tuxedo pants, for example, or outside for a more casual look.
Button clips, on the other hand, do not need to be sewn.
They can be placed directly on the pants and can be used on all pants thanks to the clip closure.

Leather Tab Attachments with Clips

Another attachment option for suspenders is to use leather tabs with built-in clips.
These suspenders offer the practicality of clips and the elegance of leather tabs.
Leather tabs with clips can be used with dual-use suspenders and serve as an alternative attachment to both clips and tabs.
Available on the BRUCLE shop, in the suspenders replacement and accessories section, they are versatile and very practical.
They can only be used with interchangeable clip and dual-use suspenders.

Washing Instructions

Suspenders cannot be washed in a washing machine.
If they become stained, it is best to wash only the affected area with neutral soap and rinse thoroughly with plenty of water, being careful not to wet the leather and metal parts.
To clean metal parts such as clips and adjusters, we recommend a damp microfiber cloth.
For more stubborn stains, you can use specific products for metals and brass, always avoiding staining the elastic.

All our men's suspenders have a standard length of 120cm, except for leather suspenders, which come in 4 sizes, and are adjustable.

Men's Suspenders: Mistakes to Avoid

Suspenders and belts should not be worn together in the same outfit.
The clips are calibrated for use on regular pants; do not close them over the belt loops thinking that greater thickness is equivalent to a better grip.
By doing so, you would only strain the clip mechanism and damage its grip.
Suspender buttons, to be worn with leather mustaches or fabric loops, should be sewn inside the pants for a more classic and clean look.
